1984: Part 2 Pages 186-227

The rally has gone mad. The speaker is told to change what he is supposed to say because Oceania has switched enemies and allies in war fare. The speaker is told to say Oceania has never been nor will be at war, but instead says that they have been the whole time and still are. This confuses anti-Eurasia protesters and makes them hate Eastasia.

Winston reads through Goldstein’s The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism.
It explains "WAR IS PEACE," and "IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH."

To me, WAR IS PEACE simply means that they Party believes the only way for everything to be solved is by war. In modern day, there is a lot of controversy about the troops in Iraq. Some believe they should be there, and some believe they need to abort. It is all based on ones philosophies and ideologies.

IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH simply to me means not knowing will not hurt someone. If you choose not to know of something, you are not allowing it to keep you back and can continue forward with what you know or have heard. Nothing negative will stop you. It's like the expression "Through one ear and out the other."
